A quick shot from the holiday party/signing last night - thanks to everyone who came out to support me, and share holiday cheer! A special thanks to my friend, Cheryl, who provided some great treats.
Tomorrow TWRP authors will be at Joyfully Reviewed. Join us for excerpts, contests, and general craziness. It's a great way to pick up some gift ideas. So..what's on your gift list this year--to give or receive?
This coming Wednesday, I'll be hosting a Holiday Party/Book Signing at Artisan, the teaching restaurant at The Art Institute of Charlotte. The event runs from 6-8 p.m. Food is provided by Cheryl Coyle, of Pampered Chef. If you're in the area, consider yourself invited!
Special thanks to Leanne @ Red Head Graphics for the artwork. Visit her at www.redheadgraphics.net.
I read an e-mail a couple days ago about counting your blessings...even when you're trying to complain! Things like, "If you're angry in traffic...at least you have a car to drive." We all get so busy during the year, and it's hard enough to slow down over the holidays, so here's what I'm going to do.
Leave a comment to let me know what you're thankful for this year. It doesn't have to be important to anyone but you. I'm going to pick random comments to receive some e-goodies from me, anything from an e-card to a copy of one of my works in PDF format. ONE WINNER PER DAY THROUGH NOVEMBER 21! Heck, you can even enter as many times as you want if you think of something new.
I'll start: I'm thankful for my job - becuase I can earn a living and I love the people I work with (no matter how frustrating the j-o-b can be!). Now you go!
Thursday's Winner - Cia Leah wins a pdf of "Bootlegger's Bride"
Friday's Winner - Qwillia wins a pdf of "A Kiss on the Wind"
Saturday's Winner - April wins a pdf of "The Knot"
Sunday's Winner - Lucinda wins a beautiful virtual bouquet of fall flowers
Monday's Winner - Cathy Hill wins a box of virtual chocolates
Tuesday's Winner - Kara wins a pdf of "All in Good Time"
Wednesday's Winner - Jaycee wins the pdf of her choice
Thank you to everyone who left comments for sharing their gratitude! I wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
Many thanks to my good friend, Margaret Marr at Nights and Weekends for the wonderful interview we did together. She asked some fun questions, and some may know that Ms. Marr is a wonderful author in her own right. The great part of getting to know Margaret has been our proximity in miles to one another--and discovering we've been in the same place at the same time...
Read about that episode and catch the rest of the interview at Nights and Weekends, where Margaret has almost single-handedly brought small press and e-publishers to the fore.
Other dates to remember:
The Wild Rose Press authors will be at CataNetwork Readers on November 14 (I'll be there in the p.m., after work), and romantic suspense author Jerri Drennen and I will be having an excerpt part at Romance Excerpts Only on Friday, November 16. Stop by for some good reading, contests, and more!
Based on the true story of the rise and fall of Frank Lucas's drug empire, American Gangster was more than a bio-pic. The story is set up so the viewer has an early idea who is the good guy and who is the bad guy, but after the start of the film, you start to understand that there are varying shades of good and bad.
For example, you gotta like Frank Lucas. On some level, this man took nothing and made something. He's talking about the American Dream, and how that translated in 1970 for a black man in Harlem. I mean, you have to hand it to a man who's willing to walk into Vietnam in the middle of the war, even if he's doing it to cut out the middle man and procure his own heroine pipeline. On the other hand, you're supposed to like Richie Roberts, who plays Lucas's nemesis, but his personal life is such a mess that you can't exactly call him 'good' either--his ex-wife certainly doesn't.
There's a good story, there's action, there's two Oscar winners. Washington and Crowe in the same room is magnetic. It's a shame they didn't share more scenes. Strong violence, some nudity (although not sexual), portrayals of drug use...and a really interesting statement about racism.
